Travertine is a type of natural stone formed in hot springs by the precipitation of calcium carbonate. The most prominent feature of the travertine stone is the holes within the stone which are formed by the CO2 bubbles in the hot mixture as it is settled. You can never go wrong with travertine tiles or pavers when looking for the perfect landscaping solution. These are versatile materials that are functional and aesthetically pleasing for any outdoor application, such as your patio. Using travertine pavers for your patio will result in an elegant and sophisticated outdoor leisure area where you can relax and entertain guests. They are excellent for patios and other outdoor applications due to their naturally non-slip surface, which provides better grip to prevent you from slipping and falling (especially when the ground is wet). And since the pavers are made of natural stone, your travertine patio, pool paving can blend harmoniously with your home’s natural surroundings.

Being made of natural stone, travertine is among the most durable materials used for landscaping and building a patio. Their incredible strength and resilience are proven by ancient Roman structures, such as the Colosseum, which still stands today, even if it is centuries old. Travertine is virtually unbreakable, and it can withstand weights up to 8,000 lbs. per square inch. Hence, you are investing in a material that can last for generations while adding immense value to your home.

The best travertine to use for your patio or pool have a brushed unfilled surface and are about 12mm thick for tiling over an existing slab OR 30mm thick for paving on a compacted sand base. They can either be in a tumbled or brushed and chiseled finish, both of which come with properties that can make them slip-proof. Go for a chiseled finish if you want to achieve an old world or rustic look that is reminiscent of Renaissance castles and courtyards, or a tumbled finish for a more contemporary look and feel. If you are not sure which type of finish or color to use, consider ordering free samples from a reputable natural stone supplier.

Seasoned architects and builders who specialize in building luxury homes recommend travertine pavers because the material is low-maintenance, easy to maintain, and capable of standing up to extreme weather conditions. In case grit, soil, and sand is present on your patio, you can easily get rid of them with a damp cloth.

What is the price of Travertine Tiles?

Travertine tiles and pavers have a rich heritage dating back to Roman times. They have always had a rich and luxurious allure attached to them.
Travertine was used exclusively in building the Roman Colosseum and was the dominant stone used in building the Roman Forum. Basically if you were a noble in Roman times your house had a lot of travertine in it.
Nowadays Travertine is not used as a building material but as floor and wall tiles and outdoor pavers. Up until around 2012-2013 travertine tiles and pavers were always VERY expensive and exclusive. It was around this time that Travertine quarry’s in Turkey and Iran doubled production through better mining and production techniques flooding the export market with Travertine tiles and pavers.

This glut in the travertine market lead to a decrease in prices in the Australian market in general. Slate and Stone Discounts then negotiated directly with one of the quarry owners in Turkey. Guaranteeing the purchase of very large quantities of pavers and tiles in return for heavily discounted prices.
This has led us to be a market leader in Travertine Tiles and Pavers regarding value for money. We constantly sell our travertine for less than our competitors sale prices. An example of travertine prices is as follows:

French Pattern Travertine Tiles $49m2
610×406 Travertine Tiles $49m2
610×406 30mm thick pavers $79m2

Cleaning Travertine Tiles and Pavers

Cleaning Travertine Tiles & Pavers

A lot of people seem to think all stones are stain proof, If left unsealed spills and everyday messes can easily penetrate the surface of your Travertine.
Every once in a while you may need to clean your Travertine, especially if it’s in a high traffic area or an outside area. There are many affordable cleaners available for Travertine, when cleaning be sure to apply with a mop and if stains are persistent use a more concentrated solution. Do not use any high pressure cleaning equipment when cleaning your tile or paver as it will damage the stone.

Removing stains from your Travertine

If you have a spillage on your Travertine be sure to remove the stain straight away by blotting it up, do not rub it into the Travertine as it will only make it harder for the stain to be removed as the stone. IF the stain remains after light cleaning simply apply a poultice to draw the stain out overnight.

Do NOT clean your Travertine with cleaners that contain lemon, orange, ammonia or vinegar.
