Who wants Kakadu Crazy Paving?
Kakadu Crazy Paving is brought most often by customers who are living in the surrounds of nature. It is perfect for those who are wanting a product that fits in the colours and textures of their surrounding environments. With oxidisation forming over many millennia, the stone is a true part of history. The colours vary from darker greys to crisp burnt oranges and are emphasised and brought out by fire pits and flames. With many matching products, including Stackstone, tiles and pool coping, it is suitable for those who enjoy a continuous flow of colours and texture.
What is Kakadu Crazy Paving?
Kakadu Crazy Paving is a type of Slate. Slate is a metamorphic rock, it is created by the alteration of shale or mudstone by low-grade regional metamorphism. It is popular for a wide variety of uses such as external and internal paving, vertically on walls and fireplaces and, pathways and stepping stones because of its durability and attractive appearance.
Where does Kakadu Crazy Paving come from?
The tectonic environment for producing slate is usually a former sedimentary basin that becomes involved in a convergent plate boundary. Shales and mudstones in that basin are compressed by horizontal forces with minor heating. These forces and heat modify the clay minerals in the shale and mudstone. Foliation develops at right angles to the compressive forces of the convergent plate boundary to yield a vertical foliation that usually crosses the bedding planes that existed in the shale.
The Unique Kakadu Look
Kakadu crazy pave is a slate product displaying bold burnt and rustic tones. It has become one of our staple products proving to be extremely popular for its vibrancy. Your likely hood of getting any two pieces of Kakadu Crazy Paving that look the same are one in a billion. The colour of slate is often determined by the amount and type of iron and organic material that are present in the rock. Most slates are grey in colour and range in a continuum of shades from light to dark grey, Kakadu has most burnt orange and golden colours throughout because it is high in its’ iron content.
What Travertine Finishes can you use?
Kakadu Crazy Paving regardless of its layout, is a natural split finish. This refers to the undulated finish to each piece. The texture is one of the stone finest characteristics and what sets it apart from other crazy paves. The uneven surface does not affect the many ways in which you can use the stone and it has become a sort after product for pathways, patios, feature walls, and even driveways due to the finish creating a non-slip, aesthetic finish.
What sizes are available?
The Kakadu crazy pave is available for purchase in two formats, loose and on mesh. The loose products will vary in their size, shape and thickness. Typically, the size allowance is 300-700mm in diameter. Keep in mind that being a natural stone this can always vary beyond those measurements, this is simply an education guess based on the average sizes across the board of what we receive. Thickness can also vary substantially however being a slate product that is extremely common. Some pieces can be as thin as 10mm and as thick as 40mm so it is always best to sort through your product prior to laying so you can group the sizes/thicknesses to make for an easier installation.
The mesh products have smaller cut to size pieces that are glues on a mesh sheet with a 10mm gap between each to allow for grout lines. When your creative side just isn’t shining through, these sorts of products can help achieve an interesting and effective finish. The mesh sheets measure to approximately 600x400mm which therefore means you will have 4 sheets per square meter. Unlike the variations of thickness in the loose product, the mesh is a consistent 15mm thick. Remembering that again it is a natural stone, we need to allow 1-2mm variation in thicknesses.
Durability of Travertine Tile Flooring
The last sentence says it all. As a slate product and a layered stone, the strength and durability to Kakadu slate is fantastic. When laid for a driveway it must be on a concrete slab. This doesn’t reflect the strength of the stone, it is simply ensuring there is no movement of the stone with the weight of a car or other vehicle. We have seen more and more want for this product as it one of few natural stone products you can get away with no sealing because of its sporadic colouring and density.
Maintenance of Travertine Tile Flooring
As with any flooring option, regular cleaning is key to keeping your floors looking beautiful for longer. Kakadu Crazy Paving will require less maintenance than most flooring options. It is easily managed by sweeping often, ensuring that dirt and grit don’t get a chance to build up on your floors is a brilliant idea. A regularly damp mop or vacuum over your area will help keep them it spotless. As with any natural stone it is porous, and so can be susceptible to spills and stains. If you do spill something on your floors, be sure to wipe it up immediately and don’t let it set in. If a high stain area, sealing is an option! Seal and then reseal your stone every couple of years at the least to keep them extra resilient. If you want to use a stone cleaner, be sure to get one particularly meant for natural stone, and discreetly spot test it first to ensure that there won’t be any nasty surprises.
